Patients include advanced heart failure, LVAD, thoracic surgery patients, pulmonary hypertension, post cardiac arrests and post cath lab patients. Average census in CVTU is 18-24 patients. Unit is also staffed with Advanced Practice Clinicians.

The hospital provides emergency care for more than 105,000 patient visits annually and has one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in Illinois.
Requirements: residency/fellowship training in pulmonary critical care, emergency medicine critical care, anesthesia critical care or medicine critical care.
