We are seeking an Emergency Medicine Medical Director to lead our department while continuing clinical practice. This hybrid role allows for 80–100 clinical hours/month, with the remainder of time devoted to administrative leadership.
Schedule: 12-hour shifts (day and night available)
Team Structure: 1 Physician + 1 APP per shift
Patient Volume: 53 visits/day
Trauma Level: Non-trauma, community hospital setting
EMR: EPIC
Clinical Responsibilities (80–100 hours/month):
Provide high-quality, evidence-based emergency care
Collaborate with APPs and clinical staff for efficient patient management
Serve as a clinical leader and mentor in the department
Administrative Responsibilities:
Lead department operations, staffing, and quality initiatives
Optimize performance metrics: patient flow, satisfaction, safety, and outcomes
Conduct meetings, manage schedules, and oversee credentialing of new providers
Serve as a liaison between ED staff and hospital administration
Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
MD or DO, board-certified in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
Minimum 4 years of Emergency Medicine clinical experience
At least 1 year of prior leadership experience (Director, Assistant Director, or Lead role)
Current Michigan medical license or ability to obtain
Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities
Experience with EPIC EMR preferred
Clinical decision-making under pressure
Performance improvement and metrics analysis
Conflict resolution and team management
Clear communication with staff, administration, and patients
Strategic planning and operational oversight
